Il nostro fine è quello di diffondere storie e tradizioni senza scopo di lucro.
Nel 2015 due amici, appassionati del “vecchio” Marchio AlfaRomeo, si sono uniti a me per tradurre in italiano ed in tedesco il sito “Autodelta Golden Years”: Renzo Carbonaro ed Ulrich Zensen.
Sempre nel 2015, anche l'amico Vladimir Pajevic (bravo artista Serbo che da anni vive e lavora in Italia, e da anni naturalizzato Italiano) ha notevolmente contribuito con uno studio molto approfondito sulla nascita ed evoluzione della T-33 da corsa e sulla nascita della stupenda “dreamcar” 33 Stradale nata per la tenacia di tre uomini: Giuseppe Luraghi (Presidente Alfa Romeo), Carlo Chiti (Direttore Generale Autodelta) e Francesco Scaglione (Designer e creatore della 33 Stradale). Vladimir ci ha anche regalato un'immagine privata del suo amico Carlo Chiti e delle sue qualità umane.
Inoltre, Michael Keyser, pilota di Endurance e Produttore Cinemaografico, ci ha concesso di riprodurre nel nostro sito alcune parti del suo emozionantissimo video “The Speed Merchants”
Nel corso del 2016 abbiamo avuto il piacere di dare il benvenuto, nel nostro sito, ad un nuovo co-redattore, Claudy Schmitz, con il suo apporto di circa 40 anni di ricerche storiche sull'Alfa Romeo e grande collezionista di modellini di auto, sempre Alfa Romeo.
Il nostro sito è interamente autofinanziato e non offriamo in vendita libri, riviste, CD o DVD od altro materiale per scopo di lucro.

We truly appreciate hearing from those such as you who are emotionally affected by what we have crafted from our own memories and photographic images. Believe me, we are pleased that you enjoy my Autodelta story..albeit a four decade old story…and we know that some of you are interested in having a more 'durable' copy of it. At the present time, however, we have no plans to offer this information in any other source than the Internet. Our only goal is to propagate this history and tradition and we choose not to profit while doing so. As the year 2015 drew to a close two outstanding and dedicated Alfa Romeo enthusiasts came forward to join the team ...Renzo Carbonaro and Ulrich Zensen...and both put forth a gargantuan effort to translate the site into Italian and German. And Vladimir Pajevic, the author of a new book on the history of the GTA cars contributed the most historically accurate and true inside story of the birth of the T-33 and of the Stradale cars....and a stunning review of his friend Carlo Chiti from the purely human standpoint... ....and to top that off, world class endurance racer and movie producer Michael Keyser gave "Inside the Walls" permission to provide our visitors with Alfa Romeo racing video segments from his epic movie "The Speed Merchants". We have yet to incorporate all of his footage into our site, however. In late 2016 we were privileged to welcome a new Contributing Editor with 40 years of Alfa Romeo Autodelta study and experience as a collector and historian, Claudy Schmitz. The site hosting package is paid up for the next ten years and it is our goal to have the site funded in ‘perpetuity’! There is no one out there who is telling the Autodelta story to a wide audience without requiring you to buy a book, a magazine, a CD or a DVD. Bob, I read everything on your website last night! Any way to make the print bigger? My eyes were feeling the strain. You had the job that so many of us would wish we could have working in a kind of a "skunk works" developing some of the most famous races cars in history. I was fascinated to read about the racing developments of Ing. Chiti. Wasn't there a Brabham that he was involved with that used a fan as a way of creating down force, and could the be attributed to his genius creativity?

I've really been enjoying your "Inside the Walls" series. Thanks for sharing it with us. There is something about the late '60s/early '70s that seems magical. I sometimes wonder if that might not have been the golden age for sports and racing cars. I'm an aerodynamicist, and I got especially excited when I saw the picture of the model shop with the wind tunnel models. I'm curious, did you get any pictures of the wind tunnel?

I enjoyed very much your series of photos inside Autodelta. I am fascinated by the inner workings of most race shops and organizations but Autodelta holds a special interest for me. I own and vintage race a 1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Veloce and have been an Alfa fan since the 70's.
You are very fortunate to have been able to turn your passion into a career. I envy your experiences with the team and like to fantasize that under different circumstances I would have done the same.
Knowing and working for Carlo Chiti must have been an enlightening experience. Interesting to note that most great things are accomplished by singular great men.

"Inside the Walls" is so relevant to me personally: I visited them in 1978 in order to buy some cams for my Alfetta GTV2000, I entered the gate where those guys were sitting for a group portrait (shown in Part One), and saw nothing but walls everywhere. All technical activity was shielded by internal walls. I finally talked to their chief technician in an office. I would have loved to have a tour on their premises, but not to happen! Today factories have a very different approach to public relations!

I came across your web site today by chance and was very pleasently surpised! Great photos and history about your time with Autodelta. I have been to Settimo many times as I live not far away and have visited the Alfa Romeo archives a number of times recently too as part of my research into the Trofeo Alfasud race series for writing a book. I went to visit "Dorino" Zeccoli a few weeks ago as well - great guy even at 85 years of age!

I am Argentine, but, i live in Milano since over 20 years and, maybe as you know, the history of Alfa Romeo is always connected to the two countries and especially very strong in Milano. Sincer a long time i follow racing and classic car events and, every so often I write for a Argentine blog called Retrovisiones, created by true lovers of the “Biscione”, while some of them have been involved with the MM with cars of the “ Museo Storico”. I hope you have more things to tell of the fabulous Autodelta years and the great hope that we are in Brescia next year.

When I heard the announce’s voice over the pit loudspeakers in one of the movie clips I ’bout wet my pants. what an incredible flashback that gave me. I wouldn’t've believed my reaction, but it happened! amazing!
Wonderfully evocative photos. Last year I finally fulfilled a long-held ambition to drive the Targa Florio route, but not at quite the same pace as those such as Helmut Marko. Anybody who has been there can only wonder at how they posted the lap times back in the day – if I remember correctly, 70-odd twisting km in 37 minutes! Sadly, the roads are no longer in such good condition, landslips and general wear and tear having taken their toll, such that any attempt to drive quickly can result in (rented) car damage or worse. Must admit to being more than a little envious of Robert’s experiences!
The Autodelta story has been amazing, especially the Targa Florio piece and the photographs at the team hotel/garage. Whilst photographs were not the first interest they show life at a different time and pace-it would not happen now. Sicily is a wonderful place, I did the race route last year but unfortunately many of the roads in bad repair. Robert you were very privileged and thank you for sharing your words and pictures. One correction: “Above is a twelve cylinder 2,995 cc 460 bhp, 4-valve aluminum normally-aspirated masterpiece.”
This is a fuel injected engine. Note the pressure pump at the extreme right on the end of the cam shaft and lines running to the injectors above and behind the intake trumpets.
Great story. Sounds too good to be true, to have been able to spend time in this heaven of seventies sportscars. I have to question the remark from mr. Seielstad. Fuel injection does not make a car non normally aspirated! Any car that sucks the air into the cilinders by the vacuum of the piston going down in the cilinder is normally aspirated. Addition of the fuel by carburettor or injector does not change that. Only when forced air induction is in place by compressor (mechanical driven or outlet gasses driven) it becomes “non-normally” asprirated.
The system included a single horizontal “guillotine”throttle plate on each bank. Injectors were Lucas, as was the MkII rotary metering distributor fed by one Lucas gear type mechanical fuel pump and two “black bomb” electrics. This system was also used on the Gr 56 “GTAm” racecourse but with 4 individual vertical “guillotine” throttles”. No digits used in that period.
Hi Bob, Your postings are wonderful.. I never knew you spent so much time at Autodelta and even became friendly with some of the mechanics. I was actually there in the late 70’s with my father to pick out parts for my Alfetta GT race car, unfortunately I never thought of taking photographs. I guess I was overwhelmed by the fact that Domenic was about to introduce me to Ingegnere Chiti to discuss which Autodelta components would best suit my project. I remember he was excited to hear that I was working in the aircraft industry for Lucas Aerospace and mentioned that he also started his career as an aeronautical engineer. I will never forget the screaming sound of a race engine which was coming from the banco prove that day. I personally think that Carlo Chiti was a genius who deserves more recognition for his achievements, my father revered him and to me that says a lot. May they both rest in peace in race heaven.. What an experience you had working with that team of highly talented people under the leadership of Carlo Chiti! Although you and I worked together at ALFA Romeo Inc. for years, along with my boss, Don Black, the head of the U.S.Engineering Office,(where I worked during the first 6 of my 13 years at ARI) and knew you had spent time in Italy working at ALFA, 'I HAD NO IDEA'! Don's input and stories brought back some great memories of working there in Englewood Cliffs and I was constantly educated and inspired by the people around me at ARI, especially working with Don, as you obviously were at Autodelta! Again it was such a pleasure to meet you and attend your presentation at Alfas at the Glen. Your relating the lives of the people and challenges of AutoDelta kept my wife Joanne, who is bored by talk of just mechanical things interested.Seeing the photos and in particular your description of the 33 blasting through the little village, prior on the website, and then again at Watkins Glen Grand Prix Circuit, I just can't think of anything else. Is it possible that this image could be made into a mountable poster and include your description of the sight and sound? I would sign up to purchase one if available. Or for that matter have one produced for just myself? Or several to benefit your trust, or a charity?
I respect your selfless approach immensely but can't help but think that making a few of the images available in such a way would actually further your cause.

I am a "appassionato" alfista , my father who has taught me all I know about alfas has raced with alfa all his life since the 50's starting with the 1900 ti on to the GTA ........... I learned how to truly "drive" on our GTA 1600 stradale ...a learning that lasts a lifetime .
